Campaigns Manager

London, England, United Kingdom

Small Axe is a not-for-profit with one goal: to create movements that are progressive, hopeful and powerful, to inspire people to act on the most pressing issues of our time. We bring together bold creative, communications and organising to run integrated end-to-end campaigns. No two days are alike.

We campaign with humility, integrity and passion for the causes we work on. We’re proud that our work has played a crucial role in two General Elections - for Caroline Lucas’ 2015 winning re-election campaign, and at the 2017 General Election in the two most effective third-party campaigns against School Cuts and for a Progressive Alliance.

We work hard and with passion - with a sincere belief that a small group of thoughtful and committed people can change the world. That’s why we’re called Small Axe:

“If you are the big tree,

Let me tell you that: we are the small axe

Sharpened ready ready to cut you down, (well sharp)”

- Bob Marley

We’re looking for an experienced campaigner to join our tight-knit team and lead on a variety of exciting projects we’ve got on. We’re looking for someone that has a passion for the work and building a progressive, people-powered politics.

You’ll be campaigning with a range of organisations from unions and NGOs to small charities - from the National Education Union and Labour Party to EveryDoctor and Citizens UK. You’ll need to be resourceful, organised, comfortable in a fast-paced environment and be able to hit the ground running.

We’re not your typical campaigning operation. That’s why this role is perfect for someone who can bring their own experience, while opening up to new ways of doing things, process and culture.

We’ll say it upfront: campaigning can get pretty hectic. Sometimes we have to turn out entire campaigns in a matter of hours to seize a political moment. We’re always pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve in order to win campaigns. All the while we strive to be a close team who support each other every day. This role requires someone with initiative who can balance picking things up quickly with collaborating closely with others to achieve big things and overcome challenges.

As a Campaigns Manager, you will:

We are an equal opportunities employer and we welcome diversity and people from all backgrounds, we do not discriminate. Experience and values are everything, hard skills can be taught.

Keep in mind that Small Axe is a tight-knit team with big ambitions for what we can bring to the sector over the next five years - from starting up our own projects to pushing the envelope on what’s possible for a campaign.

We’re also a cooperative.

We’re looking for someone that can join the team and help build this common endeavour together, and candidates who are explicitly committed to a permanent, long-term position with us.

EXTENDED DEADLINE: If you would like to apply please send your CV and cover letter detailing why you’d like to take on this role no later than 5pm on Wednesday 14th August. We will hire sooner if the right person is found.
